HARD RAIN

Digital print on Clairefontaine Dessin Croquis 250gsm, 30cm x 40cm, numbered edition of 25

Hard Rain was created as part of a year-long residency at 3bisf: a ground-breaking arts centre in the middle of Aix-en-Provence's vast psychiatric hospital where patients, public and artists mix, chat, learn and make together. Across dozens of workshops gethan&myles devised and co-created work inspired by the ultimate elemental force: the weather. Sun and snow, clouds and wind all had their turn. For rain we armed ourselves with a pot of black paint, a brush - and a large format blank canvas. Participants took turns to add their splashes of black rain as calmly or vigorously as they felt like - and a photograph was taken after each 'shower'. The result was a violent, slashing black rain storm – very Irish – and 12o photographs of the storm's evolution. These photographs were the basis of a stop-motion film and the Hard Rain print, which was subsequently gifted to all participants and shown along with the final canvas and other works at the end of year exhibition.
